peerspective mac os x installation instructions

PeerSpective 1.2 supports Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5, on both PPC and Intel machines. To install PeerSpective on your Mac OS X machine, follow the instructions below:

Requirements:

• Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 (supports both PowerPC and Intel processors)

• Skype must be installed

• You must have administrative rights on your machine

Installation Instructions:

• Check that Skype is running. PeerSpective uses Skype to communicate with your friends.

• Download the OS X Disk Image, and drag the PeerSpective application to your Applications folder.

  

• Run PeerSpective. Using Finder, navigate to your Applications folder and double-click the PeerSpective application.

• Enter your password. This is necessary to set up the virtual Ethernet device which PeerSpective uses to communicate.

  

• Allow PeerSpective to talk to Skype. Skype will pop up a notification asking for an authorization. Select Allow this application to use Skype.

  

• Configure the proxy. This tells your web browser to use PeerSpective. This step depends on which web browser you are using: Safari or Firefox.

  SAFARI

  • Open System Prefences and click on Network.

    

  • On the left side, select your primary Internet connection, and click on Advanced.

  • Select Proxies, select Using a PAC file, and enter http://localhost:8000/proxy.pac into the URL field.

    

  FIREFOX

  • In Firefox, Preferences from the Firefox Menu, and select Advanced.

  • Select the Network tab and click on the Settings... button.

    

  • Select the option Automatic proxy configuration URL: and enter http://localhost:8000/proxy.pac into the field.

    

• You're now connected! Run a Google search to test PeerSpective.

• Finally, set up your bookmarks so that you can use the recommended pages feature. Instructions for doing this.
